Soo if you couldn’t tell by the vibe in the photo above I was planning on sharing this recipe prior to Valentine’s Day. Things got a little busy the past couple weeks and I also did some updates on my blog that left the layout and my email all wonky. It’s all straightened out now and I’ve actually updated to a much better email system! No more sending out emails with the wrong link! Phew. Thankfully the recipe I was planning on sharing for Valentine’s Day is something that can easily be enjoyed year round! This recipe is sweet and salty. It’s the perfect snack or dessert!
The star of this recipe is…the sweet freeze dried strawberries!!
What are Freeze Dried Strawberries?
The technique of freeze drying fruit has been around for years and years. It is similar to dried fruit but freeze dried fruit is crunchy as more water is removed. Basically it first begins with freezing the fruit, then it is placed in a vacuum to remove the majority of the water. Freeze dried fruits are common in store bought cereals but I personally love them as a snack! Freeze dried fruits are hard to find in Winnipeg, I’ve had to purchase mine through Amazon, Target and iHerb but it is totally worth it!
As for nutrition, these freeze dried strawberries provide vitamin C, bit of iron, and fibre!
- 2 cups freeze dried strawberries
- 2 cups popcorn
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1 cup almonds
- Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and gently mix.
- Store in air tight container and enjoy!
