Hope you’re having a great Thursday! Today, I wanted to share with you some fun ways to enjoy fruits and vegetables this summer. They are sure to impress your guests and be a hit at your next pool party or summer gathering. Fruits and vegetables are naturally colourful and vibrant so making these fruits & veggie platers are easy to look delicious.
Each of these fruits and veggie presentations are easy to make and take under 30 minutes to prepare. See below for full instructions on how to cut and fill watermelon bowls, pineapple bowls, fruit kabobs and veggie filled bell peppers!
Pineapple Boat
How cute are these!? When I saw these floating around Pinterest I knew I had to try it out! Simply cut the pineapple in half length wise. I used a Santoku knife from Costco (Tomodachi knife set) and it was super easy to cut through. Make horizontal and vertical slits in the pineapple to allow flexibility when trying to remove the pineapple. I used a smaller knife to remove the remaining pineapple. And voila, pineapple boat!
Now it’s time to fill it with your favourite fruits! I used watermelon, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and kiwi!
Watermelon Boat/ How to use a melon baller
Watermelon boats are very similar to pineapple boats but watermelon is a lot easier to remove than pineapple. I will show you to get a perfect watermelon ball using a melon baller. Melon ballers are great to use on most types of melons, kiwi and dragon fruit.
To begin, cut the watermelon in half. Then get your handy dandy melon baller out and start by firmly placing the melon baller down on the watermelon. Slowly turn the melon baller (be sure not to lift the melon baller) and then once it’s made a compete circle remove the watermelon ball!
Once your done getting melon balls from both halves of the watermelon, remove the rest of the watermelon and juice from both halves. Now select your favourite fruits and add them to your watermelon boat. I used watermelon, pineapple, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and kiwi.
Veggie Filled Bell Peppers
These are such a cute idea to use at a small gathering or for children. Simply remove the top of the bell peppers (including the seeds) and fill with vegetables cut length wise. Use celery, cucumber, zucchini, carrots or snap peas to stuff bell peppers.
Another idea to display zucchini (or cucumbers) would be to remove the peel every few centimetres to get stripes going across the vegetable. Again super easy, but a great way to display vegetables so that children (and adults) will grab for it.
Fruit Kabobs
These take the least amount of time and can be used with small toothpicks (as shown) or bigger kabob sticks. Simply choose the fruits you want and add them to the stick. Super simple but different than just setting fruit out on a tray.
Everyone at the party will be wanting to eat fruits and vegetables if you come with one of these platters ;)!
These are also great activities to do with kids and a great time for them to learn about the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables!
Hope you enjoyed this post! It was super fun to put together!
Thank you so much for reading and let me know if you try one of these out!
