This wheatgrass smoothie bowl looks and tastes like sweet berries but has the added benefit of spinach and wheatgrass! Smoothies are the best way to sneak in your greens, especially spinach since it blends very easily with other ingredients. The frozen bananas in this recipes give a thicker “ice cream” like texture. Whenever I use frozen bananas I like to eat it from a bowl but you could easily sip this from a jar or glass. Now I am sure you’re thinking, wheatgrass? I know the first time I heard of it was when I was in a small cafe and they were handing out free “wheatgrass shots”. These particular shots had a very strong green taste, which take some getting used too. Combining wheatgrass with berries and other sweet fruits, like I’ve done in this recipe is a great start to incorporating wheatgrass. I personally love the wheatgrass from Organic Burst wheatgrass because it is a trusted organic brand that sells pure ingredients. It comes in a powder form and you can add it to a glass of water, smoothie or use it in baking.
Wheatgrass is a rich source of chlorophyll (antioxidant) and has many health benefits including its alkalizing properties. It’s a great source of vitamin A, fibre, healthy fats (mainly omega-3), iron, manganese and so much more. Read more of the health benefits here. Wheatgrass is also available at your local health food store.
One cup of spinach contains high amounts of folate, vitamin K, and vitamin C. Spinach is also great for bone health. Blueberries have high amounts of antioxidants and are rich in vitamin K, fibre, vitamin C, vitamin E and much more! You can find blueberries in almost all of my smoothie recipes because they are my fav superfood!
I use a Vitamix Blender, which I highly recommend. Read my review of the Vitamix here.
